This is quite ugly, but I was able to extract the old forum messages, which included the original Guestbook entries when we started the original redpath.org/ridpath.org/reidpath.org website in late 2000.

Here's the running log of what's happened to the website.March 4, 2001Working
on
Family Message Board to allow more interactive
discussions.February 20, 2001Moved these
regular updates to their own page to help the home page load faster and
keep it a little cleaner. Moved the
href="maillist.html"> mailing lists off the menu and onto
the Web Links page.
Re-arranged the side menu with the more active items near the top
and the static information near the bottom. Updated the
href="http://www.ridpath.org/javaged/JavaGED.htm"> JavaGED
data and continue to merge the outpouring of family data and
research provided by family around the world.February 18, 2001Oops,
there was a bug in the
href="genealogy/genealogy_survey.htm">Genealogy Survey
which prevented submitting the form. If you had problems using
the form, please try it again, and let me know if you have any
problems. I apologize to those that went through the effort
of filling it out and then were unable to submit.February 16, 2001The second Redpath/Ridpath/Reidpath Newsletter is now on the stands.February 14, 2001Added
two new genealogy features I'm very excited about! The
first is a way to gather our Family Tree data through a
href="genealogy/genealogy_survey.htm"> Genealogy Survey.
It's a form to enter all the data needed to fill out and update our
Family Tree. Fill out your branch of the family today! But
what is the good in gathering the data, if we can't all see it?
That's where
href="http://www.ridpath.org/javaged/JavaGED.htm">JavaGED
comes in. It is a way to browse our Family Tree. The site
is currently running the test version using the data I have compiled
over the years from my own and other people's research. As usual, any
comments or feedback send to:

Board/Forum is working and I've moved both the GuestBook and this Web
Log to it. This lets everyone respond to each other, and other
family members can chime in, just like a real family gathering.
Also, removed the side menu to allow more space for the web site
content and moved the menu options to the top header. Updated yet
again the JavaGED data.

Hi
- my name is Michael Redpath and I was born in 1963 in Northumberland
where I have lived ever since. My father's name is Leonard
Redpath. Having done a limited amount of research , I have
discovered that the Redpath clan seems to originate from the
Northumbrian/Scottish border areas including the towns of Wooler and
Elsdon (on the Northumbrian side)and indeed Wooler still has a healthy
population of Redpaths! My Great-grandfather came from Elsdon - a tiny
village famous for "Winter's Gibbet" - the last standing hanging post
in England. I am in the process of investigating further - I
shall keep you all informed as I unearth further information. I
am trying to discover if our name is one of those that are linked with
the days of the border reivers and the moss-troopers. Anyone with
any interesting info is more than welcome to contact me - feel free to
e-mail!

Hello all,Just found this web site, interesting to see all of the comments,My
Late Father-in-Law, and his brother have succeeded in tracing our line
of the family from Angelraw to Brighton, Leamington Spa,and Waltham
Abbey, going back to William de Redepethe 1296, on the signing of the
Ragmans Roll in Scotland. Before that it was French or of Viking

Linda,Welcome
to the site and thank you for your input. We would love to see the
information your father-in-law gathered. While many of the high-points
you mentioned are somewhat known, there is less information/data
available for the in-between generations, mostly due to lack of serious
research and the lack of good source documents. I look foward to more
exchanges in the future.

a week vacation and went with Mom and the kids to Disneyworld in
Florida. I had a great time. Oh yeah, the kids did too!
Of course, I am swamped coming back, but I think I'll be back to

I'll post some of the better one's to the web as I can.

My maiden name is Redpath, and I have traced my Redpaths back to 1830.
My ggg grandfather was Samuel Redpath of Mullaloughran, just outside
Armagh City, Ireland, just about 20 miles from where I live now. My
father (William Alister Redpath) lived in Toronto, Canada for a while
around 1928, with family members, possibly Victor and Ruby Redpath. One
of this family was a male hairdresser, and my grandmother returned to
Belfast with a perm which was way ahead of fashion! My ggrandmother
Eliza Redpath (nee Quin) died in Canada sometime during the Second
World War.Other related names are Morrow, Roleston, Beck and
Hewitt, all in Lisburn and Armagh areas. According to my father, we
have relatives in Australia, but I have no leads on this yet. I was
surprised to find the website - I've had all the funny looks when
people hear your surname!

get it when someone tries to spell it, then they look at it and always

I
really find this website fascinating. We are currently working on my
husbands family history and we know that it goes back to scotland. His
uncle had told us that the family spoke gaelic, they came over and
settled in Lang Ontario Canada, but we dont know too much more than
that. I have tried to join the members list and for some reason I
couldnt get on. Have a great day Ken and Nora

for the note. I know that I have seen a number of Redpath's that
came to Canada in the mid/late 1800's, possibly some of Ken's ancestors? As
for as getting on the lists, I did get a bounce, I think it was just a

It is wonderful to be able to share with so many other Redpaths around the world. The wonder of the computer!I
love hearing all the stories from the different families (whether true
or not) and how so many of us migrated to where we are at present!I
am still researching in Indiana, USA for my Jacob Redpath born 1842 in
Indiana and died 1918 in Colorado. I have no parents for him at
present.Keep up the great work on the website.

What a great site! My
maiden name is Redpath (Forget the funny looks, how many times have you
been asked if it's an Indian name?), and my family has lived in Broome
County, New York back at least to the mid 1800s.George and Eliza
Cape Redpath came over from Scotland. (George took off for parts
unknown-maybe he headed west. I know there's a lot of Redpaths in
Illinois) My gr grandfather was their son, Arthur George Redpath. He
married Ella Smith Redpath. Any distant cousins out there? I'd love to hear from anyone with info on my line.

- Thanks for a great website. My Grandmother was Nellie Madeline
Ridpath. I have been interested, as is my Father, in our family
history. My sister even found an old book written by John Clark
in an old bookstore one day (in rural Missouri) and we were astonished,
and of course bought it!I submitted a Family Tree form, but I
think I inadvertently made some minor errors, as I was relying on my
memory, without checking with my Father, who has a mind like a steel
trap. My Grandmother (Nell) was married to my Grandfather, Peter
J. Dapkus, Sr. - I incorrectly listed his year of birth as 1903, it
should be 1902. He was deceased in 1979. My father's (Peter
Joseph, Jr.) birthday should be October 27, not 28.I am
orginally from Missouri (St. Louis), but now live in Virginia Beach, VA
(the Home State, so to speak, of the Ridpath's), as well as the
Morris'. My Great Grandmother was Arabell Morris, who was married
to David Sanford Ridpath. Which Ridpath ancestor are you
descended from? I'm sure we must be cousins!!!

Hello
to All - This site is great!! I have been interested in my family
history, and this site is the most informative and detailed I have
seen. I have also been trying to trace back the Morris line,
which has been more difficult, as it is a more common name.My
Grandmother was Nellie Madeline Ridpath, her parents were John Sanford
Ridpath and Arabell Morris Ridpath. John Sanford is a direct
descendant of John Ridpath who came over from Scotland in the 1760's
from Berwick-on-Tweed. My Grandmother had some research done while she
was alive, but we have not been able to find any documents, only
knowing what was orally passed down, until I found this site and traced
back the family line. We knew quite a bit about John Clark
Ridpath of DePauuw University in Indiana, as he was a quite well-know
author and scholar. My sister even found an old book written by
him in a bookstore in rural Missouri. All of my Grandmother's
siblings have passed away - however, we are still in contact with the
son of Ben Morris Ridpath, Clark Albin Ridpath, of Kansas City, MO.
I am orginally from St. Louis Missouri, but now reside in
Virginia Beach, VA.

After
starting to research the family I had hit a wall with information
regarding my grandfather. If I needed more information I would have had
to send away to Scotland, I'm in Australia. I placed a request for
information on a couple of Redpath message boards and sat back and
waited. I'd almost given up and was preparing to organise sending away
to the Scottish Records Office when out of the blue I received an email
asking if I had a bit more information regarding my grandfather. After
an exchange of emails I had found a 1C1R in England. Two days ago the
postman delivered a package which contained the family history back to
1780, census printouts, Civil Registration Sheets, photos of headstones
and pictures of my grandfather as a child with my great grandparents.
It was great to receive all this information but best of all was
finding a "new" relative. I don't know how or how long it would have
taken me without the Internet. I know it would have been confusing
tracing Redpaths as my great grandmother's maiden name was Redpath
bringing two Redpath lines together when she married my great
grandfather William Redpath.Ian Redpath

Marsha,According
to the data I have, looks like we are 4th cousins, once removed.
Our common ancestors look like John Clark Ridpath (1798-1879)
(note: NOT to be confused with the American historian 1840-1900) and
his wife Mary Cox (1795-1857). And I agree, Virginia easily
qualifies as the home state for the American Ridpaths. Most of
the other branches in Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska/Kansas, Texas/Oklahoma,
and Washington State look to be the result of the westward migrations
starting in Virginia.

My
name is Maryanne Redpath. I was so surprised to read this website -
although I do not know very much about the early origins of my family.
I was born in New Zealand . My parents are Frank and Ann Redpath. I
have two brothers, John and Colin. my father has a brother Ralph
Redpath and a sister, Yvonne Redpath. Ralph has two daughters Gail and
Karen. My father's father was Reginald Redpath and his wife was Moya
Redpath. Other than that I know nothing. (I think my grandfather had
some sisters) I myself live in Berlin Germany where there are
absoloutely no Redpaths.I was once in Scotland (Border district)
and can remember seeing a truck with 'Redpath's Freighters' written on
it and a 'Redpath's Fruiterers'. But it was Sunday and everything was
shut. People often ask me if I have Indian heritage. German people
find the name cool when I tell them what it means in their language.
I would love to know why the Redpaths went to NZ . Does anyone know the story?Regards, Maryanne

Maryanne,Thanks
for the post and the family information. I know there are a
number of Redpath's in New Zealand, some of them have contributed to
the newsletter and the website. I'm sure some of them might have
uncovered the reason(s) for going to New Zealand, and might be able to
help tie in your branch of the family. Good luck and enjoy the

Hello
Steve. I dont know if this helps, but I recently found out
that my Great Grand Parents who were both born in Northern Ireland were
married in the Parish of Scarva. They were William John Redpath &
Clara Eliza Black. They were married on the 9th Dec1859.I now have a
copy of there marriage certificate.I believe that William John's Father
was also born in Northern Ireland. He was Archibald Redpath born around
1819, he married an AmeliaChristie about1838.We are still
researching these facts.William John had other brothers who were born
in Northern Ireland but they all came over to the area of Chester-Le
-Street during the 1860's.WE think because of the potato famine at this
time.I can supply some dates if you would like me to. Bob

Well,
an upgrade to the server by my web hosting company trashed a number of
things on the web site. It's not quite all fixed yet, and everytime
support steps in to help, it seems to get worse instead of better.

Michael,Thanks
for the Guestbook entry, great to have you here. The Ridpath line
that ended up in the Spokane area is fairly well-known due to the
amazing success of William Marion Ridpath and his legacy. It's
nice to get to know the modern-day descendants.

I live in Fife, Scotland where there are a few Redpaths. Most well known is Jean Redpath, the singer. My
mother is a Redpath. I have traced her ancestors back to a Robert
Redpath who appears in Kilrenny, Fife having children in the 1770s. He
was a limeburner and may have come from the Lothians.I have also walked around Redpath.

Hi.10 years ago I found my biological mother and her maiden name is Reidpath. She (and me) were born in New Zealand. When
I met my mother, she told me that her father's family originated from
Germany - hence the 'ei' spelling. The German meaning of Reidpath
means riders' path (as in horse riding?).Your web-site mentions Scottish roots only - has anyone heard of the German connection???Lyn Woodward (Ms)

Hello,I
don't think we hae e mailed before. I have only made a few visits
to the Ridpath site. Seems like there are quite a few of us after
all. Lots of people tell me that the name is quite unusual!
The strange thing is that there is another Linda Ridpath living
about 3 miles from myself. You refer to the 'good old days'. I wondered what you meant.regardLinda

Linda,This
demonstrates a difficulty many family historians have in keeping
everyone straight. That's why they often use unique data such as birth
date/place, parents/spouse name, or even an assigned number. As
an example, there have been 8 known "John Clark Ridpath"'s over the
years, all presumably different people. Even though our family
names are fairly rare, there are still thousands of us out there, many
sharing common first and even middle names.Welcome!

Susan,I
am no expert on topics such as clans, tartans, and heraldry, probably a
result of my American upbringing, I have trouble grasping the basic
concepts. Steven Ridpath's site at http://riddy.co.uk/ has a good
coverage of some Redpath/Ridpath Heraldry topics and of course the
mailing list at Rootsweb
http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/r/redpath.html is a great place
to ask these questions too. (I'm crossposting there just to see if
anyone has any information on the topic)For what little it
might be worth, I understood that clans are really a Scottish Highlands
tradition and there was not much in the way of formal clans in the
Borders region of Scotland, where the majority of Scottish
Redpath/Ridpath families started.

Susan,
My husband and I just were in Scotland last year and Ken bought a tie
in the Redpath tartan. It is a district tartan and not a clan
tartan as there is no clan for us ( so I was told ). I'm born and bred in Scotland and even I get confused about the whole Clan thing.

My
Grandfather always said our branch of the family belonged to the
Camerons of Erracht but after searching, he might of been referring to
the tartan as worn by the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders, as we had
family members in this regiment

Our
branch of the Redpath family have just started a site at redpath.com
Most Redpath's in Northern Ireland were of Planter stock
(farmers) originating from the Scottish Borders and principally settled
in the mid/Down/Armagh area in the 17th Century. This is the most
likely area in NI to find any distant relatives. Regretably by Father
and this brothers who would have a knowledge of the Redpath's in this
area have now passed away but the local Presbyterian Church records in
the Banbrige/Scarva/Tandragee areas would be a starting point (most if
not all Redpaths were Presbyterians)or contact the central Presbyterian
records office in Belfast who should be able to help.RegardsKen Redpath

It's been a long time since I checked back on this page.
I got a laugh from your response-my whole family has blonde hair
and blue eyes, so the "Native American" thing doesn't work! From what I
understand, the community in Scotland was at the end of a red clay road
(in the 1500's, so I wouldn't go looking for it now!) the people who
lived at the end of it were supposedly referred to as the
"RedPaths".

Hi MaryanneI
have just discovered this website and I do know that our family
connection emigrated to NZ from Co Armagh NI. My uncle who is now
deceased was contracted by a lady called Annett circa 1969-70 (the
person if I can recall came from the Christchurch area) Annett is a
family name beside the Redpaths in the Cargans area of Co Armagh. She
had traced the family tree back to my Uncle. She is I understand now in
a nursing home in Auckland or Christchurch. The lady would now be in
her 80's This maybe a connection and my Aunt still has the correspondenceBest RegardsKen Redpath

Dear Ed,Christmas greetings from Australia.We're
well and truly into the Christmas season here. It sort of starts
on Melbourne Cup day and then lasts through to Australia day in late
January.Chrissy parties, drinks, lunches etc... Our
office lunch is this afternoon down in Fremantle at Rosie O'Gradie's,
so we are looking forward to that. All the ladies in the office
have their summer dresses on and are looking bright and tropical. My
wife had her's yesterday, they went on a river cruise, with
dancing and lunch and drinks and music and frivolity etc... She
came home with a Santa hat, sun burn and slurred speech.
Hmmm!!Just back from Adelaide which was great. They like their red wine in South Aus. The
cricket test Oz v the South Africans is there this week end, flew
to Adelaide on Tuesday with Adam Gilchrist the Aus wicketkeeper.
He's a good lad. Got home late last night and then woke up
at 6.00am Adelaide time or 3.30am Perth time this morning. One
glass of red at the lunch today and I'll be snoring in the corner.Christmas cards home to all my relatives in Scotland over the weekend.Once again Merry Christmas and seasons greetings from the land of Oz to you and all the regular visitors to the site.RegardsDavid Redpath

do have a Mary Jane Redpath christened 23Aug1855 at St. Andrews in
Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland but no further connections for her.
If she is the same Mary Jane, she would have been about age 16 in

Jane and her decendants, and I will let you know if I run across any

Dear Ian,
I am a Roberts who married a Redpath. My Family too came
to America from Scottland. What I found interestig about your delema was
the fact that my husbands name is William and his family came from
England. All I know is that his fathers name was Lovell, and that they
left England to go to Canada, then moved to the United States. Lovell
was a surgeon in Canada but once in the United States he was no longer
allowed to pratice medicine without going to school here. Money was
tight so he took a lisence to be a vet and went around on horse back
from farm to farm and sold homepahic medicine.William will be 81 years
old this March and does not like computors, I am 41 and I do all the
computor stuff.I would enjoy so much as to learn all there is about my
husbands Family so please write to me at path0225@aol.com Sincerily, Michelle Redpath 1615 Hancock Blvd Reading,Pa 19607-2921

Hi
Ed and all the rest of you "cousins". Glad to see so much activity on
here. I am from Collingwood, Ontario, Canada, and very much into the
family genealogy. I am researching the ancestors of James Redpath and
Ann Lothian. I am presently having some conflicts with this as one
source gives James father and mother as Robert Redpath and Margaret
Moffat, and has him born in 1813. The other senario is that he is the
son of James Redpath and Euphemia Faside.I think I will have a "blonde Moment" here and say, "I'm so confused'. Can anyone out there help me out?Keep up the good work Ed, and all the rest of youNorm

As
I tried to distribute the newsletter this week, I discovered a problem
where anything sent to newsletter@redpath.org (or ridpath/reidpath.org)
disappeared (argh!). My hosting provider has fixed this problem,
but it may have been broken for several weeks. If you submitted
an article or item for the newsletter, and it did not appear in the
latest 1QFeb2002 issue, I did not get it and would ask that you
resubmit it. I will make sure it gets into the next issue in May.
Any newsletter subscribe/unsubscribe requests were eaten too, but
I can't think of a good way to recover from that.To end on a
good note, the latest edition is finally out to everyone. The
support for the newsletter is very nice, and I myself was very pleased
with this issue, it seemed to come together very well.

Carrie,Well,
you are off to a good start, since you should always start with
yourself and work back. I checked what you provided here and
could not link up William and Marjory Redpath. You said there
were 10 children, if you can get their names (I know, always difficult
when the last one to know has passed away) I would be willing to bet
connections could be made. Also, any dates and places you can
find narrow things way down, too. Good luck on your
quest!

I
have a little on William Redpath from the Social Security Index - His
SSN was 322-01-6563 which he got in Illinois. I think his wife
Myrtle might be SSN 336-07-7618 also in Illinois. Her birth
is listed as 22Apr1910 and Death Oct1985 in Hanson, Plymouth County,
Massachusetts. Otherwise, I have not hooked them into other
branches of the family yet, and don't have exact matches for George and
David, who may still be with us.You can request from the Social
Security Administration a copy of the original application for the SSN,
which often includes lots of good information, such as parents and
their birth places. A bit pricey now at $27 each, but it's a good
way to pick up the trail on an ancestor.Let me know what you find out, and I will keep my eyes open for you too.

Norm,Actually,
I have stumbled across this quite often, especially with common names
like James, John, William, etc. Matching up the various birth records
to the marriage and subsequent birth of children records can be tricky
business, especially with the mobility in the Borders area and the use
of so few given name variations.I have a few anomalies with
this one though. The first will be that most of the references I
have to James (b. 04Jan1813 to Robert Redpath and Margaret Moffat) is
that he married an Elizabeth (not Ann) Lothian (two dates/places for
the marriage 26Mar1837 in Legerwood, Berwickshire and 03Apr1837 in
Melrose, Roxburghshire) and then seemed to reside and have children (5)
in Earlston, Berwickshire until emigrating to Canada. Are Ann and
Elizabeth the same (my assumption at this point) or are they
sisters/cousins and James married twice? Or are there 2 James who
married Lothian women, since the name James Redpath was common enough? The
James (b. say 1785) who married Euphemia Falside on 30May1806 in
Mertoun, Berwickshire and had a son John b 22Apr1807 also in Mertoun,
seems to be a bit too old, but it would not be impossible. Seem
likely this James would have had more children, so he may have moved or
some other event might have happened making it harder to track where he
went.I do not have any census data for either James, there
might be some clues if they were caught in one of the later census in
the later 1800's either in Canada, Scotland, or England.

Looking
for information or sites regarding the Mexican Rebellion as I have just
received my grandfather's WWI Australian Army enlistment papers (August
1914) with a notation that he served 6 months in the rebellion. He
joined the 2nd Devons in England & served with them from January
1907 to March 1908I've tried searching the web but can't find
anything of substance and I thought our American "cousins" might be
able to shed some more light it.Thanks in advanceIan

Hey,
Im from Australia descended from the Redpaths of the Isle of Man. As
Ive never met my parents I never really knew anything about the origin
of my name or family, but its nice to see a website with so much
information. I had no idea there were so many Redpaths all over the
world, Ive never even heard of another Redpath in my own state.

Hi
I am Dave Ridpath and I live in Huntington West Virginia. I have with
me my wife Jacqueline (from Germany), our two children Chiara and
Bradley II, and my father LaMonte H. Ridpath. The Ridpath is originally
from Denver Colorado. My father and I, along with my two brothers,
Brian and Brett lived near there most of our lives. My father's
immediate family comes from the Sioux Falls SD area he has one brother
and two sisters. We have never really seen many Ridpath's in our
travels and love this forum. We would love hearing from any Ridpath's
anywhere, but specifically from the Ohio Valley, South Dakota, or
Colorado. I look forward to posting more soon.Dave Ridpath

Hi
from Australia - trying to trace Redpath history in Scotland. Great
grandfather William Ritchie Redpath, arrived in Australia in late
1800's. Believe he was aged around 2 at this time. His father Robert ?
William ? - still trying to check - came to Australia as manager of
Onkaparinga Woollen Mills in Sth Australia..Believe he came from Hawick as his first house in Australia was so named ! Some family references also to Galashiels ?My
father Robert John, was supposedly the seventh generation in the
textile manufacturing industry. Family possibly related to Ann Redpath
well known artist but cannot confirm ??Any clues welcome - Ritchie RKind regard - Ritchie Redpath

Hi Ken Thank
you for your informative site. I wonder if there is a connection
between my Redpath ancestors and the Redpaths of the original farmhouse
near Cargans. I'd be most interested to hear your opinion, and
very grateful for any information about the family. My
great-great-grandmother was Eliza(beth) REDPATH, daughter of Thomas
REDPATH, a farmer. She was probably born in 1819-20, and married
John BOYD of County Armagh. Since her elder daughter, Susan, was
born in Cargans (in about 1843), it seems likely that Eliza Redpath was
one of the Cargans Redpaths. John (termed an agricultural
labourer) and Eliza and their two daughters, Susan and Elizabeth, aged
9 and 7, emigrated to Victoria, Australia on the "Hooghly" in 1853-4.
There may also have been a slightly older child, John, who did not
accompany his parents to Australia. Though on this information one
might expect a Thomas Redpath to be listed in the Tithe Applotments,
none appears. (Details from marriage and death certificates, and emigration documents, whose dates don't necessarily coincide.)Best WishesJoan Naughton

Dear
Glen, I believe John and Janet were my great, great grandparents on my
maternal side. Their son William was my great grandfather. He married
Agnes Wilson at Muirdean, Makerston, near Kelson in Roxburghshire on
10th March 1876. My grandmother,Christina Moscrip Redpath, was their
eldest daughter. She was born on 22nd December 1876 and died in 1954.
My mother, Mary Pringle, was the second youngest in a family of five
and is the last member still alive at the ripe old age of 90. Doug

Hello Ed,I
thought people may like to have look at Scotland captain Bryan
Redpath's thoughts before the game v the Springboks on Saturday.Great to see him back with the captain's armband. Obviously got over his little incapacitation.RegardsDavid RedpathScotland
captain Bryan Redpath believes Scotland have a point to prove in
Saturday's clash with South Africa at Murrayfield. Redpath wants
Scotland to break the losing habit and inflict more misery on the
Springboks after their defeat against the French at the weekend. "There
have been times when Scotland have played very well and pulled off
performances that have got wins," he said. "Now we have to start
performing more against the southern hemisphere sides like Australia,
South Africa and New Zealand. Redpath, who steered his side
to a 37-10 win over Romania at the weekend, has urged the Scots to be
wary of the wounded South Africans. Redpath said: "South Africa have a
lot of quality players. We know South Africa are a very good side and a
side you have to respect. They're a proud nation and they'll be
disappointed to lose at the weekend (to France). We're aware of that
and it won't be an easy game."

Hello,
Hello...I am also looking for information. However it is on John
Redpath, George Redpath's son. I came to find a small cemetary near my
home and was curious about it and decided the other day to go have a
look. As it turns out there was about 20 or so headstones in it and a
few of them were Redpaths. I read a section titled, the Family History
Mystery on the Redpath's family website, and in it it said that a man
of the name John Redpath ran away from home to America. I became
interested in finding out more about it after seeing that the rest of
the family appeares to live in Euprope. I have a hobby of picking one
name and finding out the life/story of that person buried in the
cemetary, people that of course seem to have a mysterious being of
there, and this one struck me. It is across the street from a farm that
has been there since before the cemetary (it is now very old and run
down, I don't believe it has been in use for quite some time), so I
thought perhaps he had been a farmer, or one of his children had been.
I had thought I had figured it out when it said that he had ran away to
America and he settled here making his fortune, however I was
diappointed when it said that he did so in Oklahoma, and I am located
in Kansas. In the cemetary there is a son of his buried there and I
thought perhaps he had moved here to Kansas to farm and when his
parents passed he had them brought here and buried here near his home.
Though non of the other children are buried there that I can recall, I
was also struck with interest in the being of that. Now perhaps that
might have helped solve anything other suspicions of John's story, and
maybe you could help me. It would be most appreciated, thank you.

I
found a William Redpath with parents of Thomas Redpath and Agnes Short
born in 1873 in Lauder, Berwickshire, Scotland and one born to Thomas
Redpath and Agnes Brown in Channelkirk, Berwickshire, Scotland circa
1852. This second one matches a William Redpath on a Passenger
List arrived in Victoria, Australia in Jul 1883 at age 31. Do you
have more detail to try to determine if these hook up to the William
Redpath you are looking for?

Scotland before being forced to leave the country, now given the time
frame this could have been debts or anything. That sounds a lot like
him actually. My great Aunts are reluctant to talk about him. My
William married in 1886 to a Sarah Blackadder (nee Waldon
/Waldron/Walren) at Corindi or
